Will T-Mobile score with iPhone 4 this year?

The iPhone 4 antenna issue may not warrant a recall in Apple’s estimation, but that isn’t really because they’re too afraid of the cost of such action. Its profit in fiscal third quarter 2010, per PC Magazine, was massive thanks to the iPad. Apple took away a $ 3.25 billion profit after raking in a total of $ 15.7 billion for the quarter. Yet that may not even be probably the most explosive news coming out of the land of Steve Jobs. A “highly placed source” claims T-Mobile may take on iPhone 4 sales by the third quarter of this year, according to Cult of Mac. Furthermore, PC World reports that this merger is 80 percent certain.

T-Mobile and iPhone 4 would be a powerful combo

Currently the fourth-largest carrier in the U.S., T-Mobile would certainly vault over AT and T, Verizon and Sprint if the iPhone 4 deal happens. But PC World warns that there could possibly be frequency issues. T-Mobile uses a non-standard band, and iPhone 4 hasn’t been tested on all the carrier’s ranges.

Perhaps this should go in the iPhone 4 rumor discard pile

Considering Cult of Mac’s overall track record with predictions, PC World may be right in reminding us not to lose our heads. Steve Jobs may not have cast his death stare at T-Mobile yet, and the carrier may have room to absorb the onrush of potential iPhone 4 customers. Since Apple is already in cahoots with T-Mobile parent business Deustche Telekom in Europe, possibly T-Mobile has its foot in the door already.

Is T-Mobile your next carrier of choice?

If T-Mobile does indeed enter a partnership with Apple, the pool won’t stay sparsely populated for long. Antenna issues aside, iPhone 4 remains wildly popular. Legions of devoted fans have kept iPhone 4 standing toe-to-toe with Droid and America’s top smartphones. Let us know what you think by sounding off below.
