Jeanie Buss, LA Lakers Executive Vice President, can’t be happy with her team’s performance in the playoff series that was against Oklahoma City Thunder. While the Lakers have clawed back for a 3-2 lead in the series with two games left to play, uninspired performances and underwhelming games by star Kobe Bryant have prompted whispers that perhaps the Lakers are aging and in need of a tune-up. Head Coach Phil Jackson likes challenges, but when superstar players start to lose interest (as they did when he coached the Chicago Bulls at the end of the Michael Jordan era), Jackson has looked to greener pastures. Will Phil Jackson leave the Lakers, even though Jeanie Buss is apparently his girlfriend?
Realism from Jeanie Buss about Jackson and also the Lakers
According to Yahoo! Sports, Jeanie said that if the Lakers win, Jackson will probably return meaning a three peat in 2010-2011. He doesn’t need any cash and isn’t looking for a mortgage loan restructuring soon. Jackson is certainly a head coach a team would want on the sideline. Buss acknowledged all of this by saying “I know Phil will be coaching next year, somewhere. Whether it is here or someplace else I do not know. … There’s going to be a lot of good jobs that come up this summer.”
Could Jeanie Buss be left by Jackson for LeBron James?
It really could happen, just differently than you might expect. Jackson could conceivably leave the Lakers for the Cleveland Cavaliers, suggests Yahoo. That might happen if LeBron James re-signs with the Cavs. The players haven’t put all the pieces together yet, although Cleveland might win the championship. That could be the kind of challenge Jackson desires. Jeanie Buss might just be using media to convince Phil Jackson to commit. Women tend to appreciate a man who’s willing to commit.
