Net neutrality ends with Google-Verizon deal

Net neutrality is when content can’t become favored. Net neutrality is something that needs to end for big businesses to succeed more. Google and Verizon, the 800-pound gorillas of the Internet, are in collusion to provide content to Internet users at higher speeds for a higher price. Net neutrality crusaders want the Federal Communications Commission to nix the Google/Verizon axis. Since net neutrality was decided by the Comcast decision in April to not be in the hands of the FCC, FCC can’t do anything.

Compromising about net neutrality

Net neutrality talks have been taking place with Internet stakeholders and FCC officials. Those incorporated within the category internet stakeholders are Verizon, AT and T, cable companies, the Open Internet Coalition and Google. The New York Times reports the discussions involve the FCC’s legal authority to regulate Internet service. A premium on higher bandwidth is the request of cable and telephone companies. All companies that are wireless hope there could be no wireless broadband regulation. Favoritism is wanted by content providers. The FCC wants a level playing field, but because of the FCC Comcast decision, it can’t impose one as long as its authority is in legal doubt.

Google and Verizon are fighting the establishment

Google and Verizon are making deals while Internet Stakeholder and FCC are discussing net neutrality issues. Google and Verizon both hate net neutrality, reports Bloomberg. Verizon wants to be able to charge more for their services. Google has wanted regulations to prevent companies like Verizon from offering content from partners that pay for higher speed. Now, Google may have figured the era of net neutrality is already over. Making a deal with Verizon could give Google the advantage when the corporate feeding frenzy begins.

Possible corporate takeover

The Google/Verizon deal could very well change the market in a way that consumers no longer have a say in which companies do well. Save the Internet shows how Google could make commercial deals with companies. Chrome would work better than other browsers. Google Buzz would be used more than Twitter. Competing video sites wouldn’t do also as YouTube. Google’s blogger would be number one over WordPress. Skype would die out with Google’s GChat on top, and the list continues on and on.

Google/Verizon winners and losers

The Google/Verizon deal may lead to an Internet where you will find winners and losers among media giants, telecom firms and Internet users, as outlined by the Wall Street Journal. Different streams of internet could have different content. Content that is prioritized can have much higher prices than anything else. The Internet won’t be controlled by FCC while being instead controlled by Internet service providers. Competition won’t be a problem for big media corporations anymore. Surfing the internet will never be as good after having to flip through so much junk to get what you really need.

The FCC and courts are the only thing keeping this all from happening.
